❓ What is elemental gear?
❓ When, where, and why will I need elemental gear?
📌 Currently, elemental effects and gear only exist in later areas of the game (Zone 10+, Tier 11+).
In areas affected by elements, you may encounter enemies with bonus elemental resistances, damage, or effects. Many players will be able to progress well without elemental gear, but having some elemental gear fitting for the encounter will take you further and make your encounters a little easier.
❓ What are the damage types, strengths, and weaknesses of elemental gear?
📌 Currently, there are Water, Electric and Physical effects in Bit Heroes.
Additional elements will be released over time. We do not have a hard timeline yet, but we will make announcements throughout the community and in-game in advance.
Stay tuned for announcements here, on the Kongregate forums, in the Official Bit Heroes Discord Server, or on social media: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
📌 Generic damage type is now Physical damage.
Any gear that does not specify an element is now a Physical item. Additionally, any ability that does not specify elemental damage now deals Physical damage.
📌 Elements are strong, weak, or neutral to one another. This impacts how effective your bonus or resist will be when it is put to use.
- Electric: weak to Air, strong to Water
- Water: weak to Electric, strong to Fire
- Fire: weak to Water, strong to Earth
- Earth: weak to Fire, strong to Air
- Air: weak to Earth, strong to Electric
- Physical: is neutral to all other elements.
- Elements that are neither strong nor weak to one another are neutral to one another.
- Elemental damage and resist bonuses are the most effective when they match the element of an attack. More details below.
- ‘Damage Resist’ (DR) is strong against Physical damage and is Neutral to all other elements.
📌 Gear can have elemental damage, elemental resist, or both.
Examples: The Kiluhwot body armor provides bonus Electric Damage but does not include Water Resist.
The Voltpico mount can deal Electric Damage and it also provides Water Resist.
❓ How has Damage Reduction (DR) changed?
Previously, Damage Reduction (DR) reduced all incoming damage, as there was only 1 type of damage. With the addition of Elements, there are now different types of damage. Damage is either Elemental or Physical.
The generic damage type is now referred to as Physical damage. Any gear or ability that does not specify an element is Physical and/or deals Physical damage.
DR is still very useful! It will be 100% effective against physical damage and 75% effective against elemental damage, as Physical is neutral to all other elements.
❓ How is my damage bonus or reduction calculated?
📌 All of your equipped elemental effects will count towards calculating the total damage bonus or resistance percentage.
📌 If you have bonuses or resists of more than 1 element equipped, they are added together for your total bonus or resist. (Elemental Bonus/Resist A × Effectiveness) + (Elemental Bonus/Resist B × Effectiveness) + (Elemental Bonus/Resist C × Effectiveness), and so on.
Calculating Your Total Damage Bonus
Damage Bonus = (Elemental Bonus × Effectiveness)
- If the element of a damage bonus matches the element of an outgoing attack, the damage bonus is 100% effective. (ie: Fire Bonus on a Fire Attack)
- If the element of a damage bonus is neutral OR strong to the element of an outgoing attack, the bonus is 75% effective. (ie: Fire Bonus on an Air Attack or Fire Bonus on an Earth Attack)
- If the element of a damage bonus is weak to the element of an outgoing attack, the bonus is 0% effective. (ie: Water Bonus on a Fire Attack)
Example: Using two elemental damage bonuses with an elemental attack.
- Ken equips +10% Fire Damage Bonus and +30% Physical Damage Bonus.
- If Ken attacks with the Fire element,
Ken's Fire bonus will be 100% effective because the element of a Fire bonus matches the element of a Fire attack.
Ken’s Physical bonus will be 75% effective because the Fire element and the Physical element are neutral to one another.
Ken’s Total Damage Bonus =
(10 × 1) + (30 × .75) = 32.5%
- If Ken attacks with the Physical element,
Ken's Fire bonus will be 75% effective because the Fire element and the Physical element are neutral to one another.
Ken’s Physical bonus will be 100% effective because the element of a Physical bonus matches the element of a Physical attack .
Ken’s Total Damage Bonus =
(10 × .75) + (30 × 1) = 37.5%
- If Ken attacks with the Water element,
Ken's Fire bonus will be 0% effective (it will not provide a bonus) because the Fire element is weak to the Water element .
Ken’s Physical bonus will be 75% effective because the Water element and the Physical element are neutral to one another.
Ken’s Total Damage Bonus =
(10 × 0) + (30 × .75) = 22.5%
- If Ken attacks with the Earth element,
Ken's Fire bonus will be 75% effective because the Fire element is strong to the Earth element.
Ken’s Physical bonus will be 75% effective because the Earth element and the Physical element are neutral to one another.
Ken’s Total Damage Bonus =
(10 × .75) + (30 × .75) = 30%
Calculating Your Total Resistance Bonus
Resistance Bonus = (Elemental Resist × Effectiveness)
- If an elemental resist matches the element of an incoming attack, the resist is 100% effective. (ie: Water Resist vs. Water Attack)
- If an elemental resist is neutral OR strong to the element of an incoming attack, the resist is 75% effective. (ie: Water Resist vs Air attack; Water Resist vs Fire Attack)
- If an elemental resist is weak to the element of an incoming attack, the resist is 0% effective (it will not reduce incoming damage).
Example: Using elemental resist against incoming elemental damage.
- Elle equips Fire Resist, Physical Damage Resist (DR), and Earth Resist.
- Ken attacks with Fire Damage.
- Elle’s Fire Resist is 100% effective because the element of Fire Resist matches the element of Fire Damage.
- Elle’s DR is 75% effective because the Fire element and the Physical element are neutral to one
- another.
- Elle’s Earth Resist is 0% effective (it will not reduce Fire Damage) because the Earth element is
- weak to the Fire element.
Elle’s Total Resist to the Attack =
(Fire Resist × 1) + (Physical DR × .75) + (Earth Resist × 0)
Example: Defending against an element by using a matching resist.
(Water Resist against Water Damage)
- Elle equips 75% Water Resist and no other resistances.
- Ken attacks for 1000 Water Damage.
- Elle’s 75% Water Resist is 100% effective because the element of Water Resist matches the element of Water Damage.
- Elle takes 250 Water Damage.
Elle’s Total Resist to the Attack = (75 × 1) = 75%
1000 - 75% = 250
Example: Defending against an element by using a neutral or strong resist.
(Fire Resist against Physical Damage)
- Elle equips 75% Fire Resist and no DR.
- Ken attacks for 1000 Physical Damage.
- Elle’s 75% Fire Resist is 75% effective because the Fire element and the Physical element are neutral to one another.
- Elle takes 440 Physical Damage.
Elle’s Total Resist to the Attack = (75 × .75) + (0 × 1) = 56.25%
1000 - 56.25% = 437.5 (rounded to 440 in combat text)
(Fire Resist against Earth Damage)
- Elle equips 75% Fire Resist and no Earth Resist.
- Ken attacks for 1000 Earth Damage.
- Elle’s 75% Fire Resist is 75% effective because the Fire element is strong to the Earth element.
- Elle takes 440 Physical Damage.
Elle’s Total Resist to the Attack = (75 × .75) + (0 × .75) = 56.25%
1000 - 56.25% = 437.5 (rounded to 440 in combat text)
Example: Defending against an element using a weak resist.
(Fire Resist against Water Damage)
- Elle equips 40% Fire Resist and no Water Resist.
- Ken attacks for 1000 Water Damage.
- Elle’s 40% Fire Resist is 0% effective (it will not reduce the damage) because the Fire element is weak to the Water element.
- Elle takes 1000 Water Damage.
Elle’s Total Resist to the Attack = (40 × 0) + (0 × 1) = 0%
1000 - 0% = 1000
❓ What is the maximum resistance I can stack on my character?
There is a 75% cap for each resistance (including Physical). In other words, your character can stack bonuses up to 75% of each element. The effectiveness of your resistance or bonus will still depend on if the element is strong, neutral, or weak to the element it is up against.
You can equip more than 75% of a resist, but anything over 75% will not be calculated into your total resistance bonus.
❓ Can Elemental damage be triggered by pets, deflects, and redirects?
Yes!
❓ How are familiars and fusions affected by elements and DR?
Familiars and fusions will also use the full range of elemental damage and reduction.
❓ How do I view my elemental damage and reduction stats?
The information is now available in the ‘Stats’ section of your Player Info screen.
To access it, tap or click on your player profile and click on the information button in the top left. Scroll down to the Stats section to view your resistances and damage bonuses.
