Greetings, Heroes!
As you may have seen, the first set of Elemental Gear has been added to Bit Heroes! The addition of Elemental Gear and effects is bringing exciting new challenges, sweet items, and opportunities to specialize your character and discover new strategies.
We’re sure you have some questions about how it works (or will work) and what else coming next in Bit Heroes-- we’re here to share some answers and information!
Elements & Damage Types
Generic damage type will soon be changed to Physical Damage. When this change takes place, any gear that doesn’t specifically indicate elemental damage will deal Physical Damage.
There will be 7 Elements, released over time:
- Electric (added 12/13/2019)
- Water
- Fire
- Earth
- Air
- Unholy
- Holy
We do not have a hard timeline yet to share about when this change will take place or when future elements will be added, but we will make announcements throughout our community and in-game in advance, as we get closer to those updates. Stay tuned!
Elemental Strengths & Weaknesses
Each element is strong against one element and is weak against another:
- Electric is strong against Water.
- Water is strong against Fire.
- Fire is strong against Earth.
- Earth is strong against Air.
- Air is strong against Electric.
Holy and Unholy are opposing elements-- they are both stronger and weaker against each other in different ways. More details on this will be shared in the future.
Elemental gear will provide a damage bonus of that element and a damage reduction bonus for the element it is strong against.
For example, Electric Gear has +electric damage and +water resistance. This means that if you fight in a water type encounter, Electric Gear provides a bonus to your damage dealt and reduces the damage you take. In this example, Fire Gear would be ineffective, as fire is weak to water.
Damage Output
As with most gear, elemental gear can be mixed-- the % damage output of your character can be distributed across multiple damage types and it will still be driven by your attack TS. The % damage output is set by the Ability being used. For example:
Old Attack | New Physical Attack | New Fire Damage Attack | New Mixed Damage Attack | |||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Aerial Strike (2sp) - Deal damage to all enemies for 80% of TS | Aerial Strike (2sp) - Deal physical damage to all enemies for 80% of TS | Aerial Strike (2sp) - Deal fire damage to all enemies for 80% of TS | Aerial Strike (2sp) - Deal water damage to all enemies for 40% of TS; Deal fire damage to all enemies for 40% of TS |
Gear can also add static damage values to the base % damage output. The static damage values are applied additively, for example:
Old Attack | New Physical Attack | New Fire Damage Attack | New Mixed Damage Attack | |||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Aerial Strike (2sp) - Deal damage to all enemies for 80% of TS | Aerial Strike (2sp) - Deal physical damage to all enemies for 80% of TS; +50 physical damage | Aerial Strike (2sp) - Deal fire damage to all enemies for 80% of TS; +50 fire damage | Aerial Strike (2sp) - Deal water damage to all enemies for 40% of TS; Deal fire damage to all enemies for 40% of TS; +50 fire damage; +50 electric damage |
The static damage values can come from a mix of gear and they will stack. For example, you might have head armor with +10 Fire Damage, body armor with +20, and a ring with +50. Added together, the extra Fire damage would be +80.
This means that if you have 1000 TS and use Aerial Strike, your base (Physical) damage is 80% = 800. The game will then add your Fire damage, +80. If you didn’t have any Fire Gear, you would just do the 800 damage.
Updates to Damage Reduction
Coming soon, Damage Reduction (DR) will be changed to specific damage types. When this change takes place, basic DR will change to Physical DR.
For example, if you have 35% Physical DR, it will affect physical damage dealt to you. If you are receiving fire damage (from a fire damage skill), that 35% DR is not going to work. You will need some % of Fire DR to reduce the incoming fire damage.
This will only happen with Damage Reduction, as the Block, absorb, and Redirect skills will continue to work as they currently do for any kind of damage.
By default, players will have 0% elemental damage reduction. It will be possible to increase or lower the value through gear. For example, a piece of Fire Helm may include +5% Earth Resist and a Fire Body may include +20% Earth Resist, giving your character a total of 25% Earth Resist.
In the future, there will also be encounter modifiers to provide positive or negative effects. For example, you may see an encounter that gives +/- elemental damage or resist to anyone that enters.
Can Elemental damage be triggered by pets, deflects, and redirects?
Yes!
How are Familiars and Fusions affected by elements and Damage Reduction?
Familiars and fusions will also use the full range of elemental damage and Damage Reduction.
How do I view my elemental damage and reduction?
We are working to add this information in the ‘Stats’ section of your Player Info screen very soon.
What else is next for elemental gear in Bit Heroes?
We have a few improvements coming soon:
- Adding a visual indicator to elemental gear that will show the gear is of a specific element type
- Adding visual indicators that players will see during encounters when hit or affected by elemental damage
- Add the ability to collect elemental damage variants of Runes, Enchants, and Augments.
Additionally, we would love to hear your feedback and suggestions for improvements-- please share!
Update 12/19/2019:
We would like to first thank all of the community for its feedback on the initial release of Elemental System. Because of your feedback as well as the spirited feedback from your Council we will be making the following changes to the Elemental System.
- Static damage will be removed from items and replaced with bonuses that scale with players power.
- Elemental damage and resist affects will be changed to no longer ignore existing Damage Reduction bonuses.
- Physical damage and resist will be incorporated into the Elemental System.
These changes and more are being developed and tested. More information to follow.
